Income tax raid Anurag Kashyap detail
The Income Tax Authority has investigated at least 30 locations in Mumbai and Pune. The locations were filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, producer Vikas Baal, producer and distributor Madhu Mantena, and actor Taapsee Pannu.
The Income Tax Department searched various locations related to actor Taapsee Pannu, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, and his partner, who founded the now-defunct production company Phantom Films, and found the income discrepancies.
The IT department further said there was also massive suppression and manipulation of revenue worth Rs 350 crore compared to the actual cash recovery. Evidence of leading actress cash earnings of Rs. 500 crores was recovered.
Apart from that, false/fraudulent business expenses by producers/directors of about Rs.200 crores were detected.
The search also included properties associated with Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibhasish Sarkar and some executives from celebrity and talent management firms KWAN and Exceed. Seven safe deposit boxes were seized during the search.
A search was conducted on the staff of the Phantom Films production house, director and producer Vikramaditya Motwane, producer Vikas Baal and producer and distributor Madhu Mantena.
Pannu and Kashyap were interrogated by income tax officials while filming the movie ‘Dobaara’ in Pune. Opposition parties criticized the raid. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, claimed that the raids were conducted against pro farmers activists.
Maharashtra Congress president and MLA Nana Patole criticized the center for selectively targeting celebrities. We have often seen those who speak out against governments are subject to action by Central agencies. The government believes such tactics scare people. Democracy doesn’t allow that, Patole said.
Ashok Chavan, his cabinet colleague, and the parliamentary leader said this was nothing new. “We’ve seen it many times. In this way, those presenting the facts are pressured not to speak up,” he said.
However, government ministers dismissed allegations that the raid on Kashyap and Pannu is linked to their statements, which are sometimes seen as critical of the BJP. Investigators will conduct an investigation based on credible information and the case will be brought to court later,” Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said at a press conference.
